Being in “The Middle” of the Ride
My new favorite song is “The Middle”, by Jimmy Eat World. Dealing with the stress of work, school, extracurricular activities, and planning for the future, combined with the constant battle I wage against the mental unrest that plagues me as a result of knowing the lifestyle I want and having to wait to live it, the following lyrics especially resonated with me.
(Chorus) “It just takes some time, little girl you’re in the middle of the ride.
Everything (everything) will be just fine, everything (everything) will be alright (alright).
Hey, you know they’re all the same.
You know you’re doing better on your own, so don’t buy in.
Live right now.
Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn’t matter if it’s good enough for someone else.”
Every time I read these lyrics over or listen to the song I am soothed, and for me, the following messages are prominent and influential.
1st – Accomplishing goals and living your dream takes time; have faith, breathe, and go with the flow. Try to capitalize on the opportunities and challenges that are in front of you RIGHT NOW, and get anything and everything you can out of your current life situation. Your dream will be realized.
2nd – Be Authentic. I can’t remember where I heard the following quote, but the basic idea was that if the significant majority of people are doing something, it’s likely not the best option out there.
Compare your lifestyle and dreams to other people’s only to analyze which aspects may work for you. If your motivation for doing what you’re doing has anything to do with external factors such as social status, income, or a fancy title, you’re doing the wrong thing!
Choose Your Own Path, and Own It!
I’ve left this post for a couple days to finish up, and as I read over it now it becomes very clear that I am talking to myself…funny how that works.
What’s your favourite inspirational song? Which lyrics get to you, and what do they say?
